Latimer.org - Our little corner of Cyberspace
This website is intended to showcase the trials and tribulations encountered by the mild-mannered Brian Latimer
(otherwise known as … well … Brian Latimer), in attempting to create his presence on the web.

Well, that may not be the real "purpose" of this site, but you get the idea.

Spotlight predates Longhorn by 3 years

So, for all of you who though that Apple's Spotlight technology was a quick response to what Microsoft announced would be a part of Longhorn (which is due when, again?), here's proof that it was actually the other way around.

See the article over at MacObserver: Apple Spotlight Patent Reveals 3-Year Head Start on Microsoft

And, note that the integrated meta-search capability is vastly superior to any kind of "bolt-on" search technology like Google is pushing. I'm still partial to LaunchBar myself, but expect this may change with the release of Tiger.

Yes, we all know that Microsoft can't develop anything on their own, and that they merely copy our ideas, and pass them off as theirs - see Microsoft's mutiple attempts to spread FUD, as well as indications that they have severely cut their R&D spending to see for yourself. It's just nice to get some clear proof of that from time to time...
